The Royal Victoria Spring Dinghy Championship Regatta was held last weekend and was well attended by Comox Bay Sailing Club sailors. The final standings for our sailors are very impressive in large fleets. A big thanks to Alex Brown for coaching our sailors at the event and for the following write up.
The Comox Bay Sailing Club race team completed the first regatta of their season at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The weekend offered near ideal conditions with two full days of racing in five to fifteen knots. The club was well represented in the 420 and Radial class.
This was the first away regatta for both of our 420 crews and both boats sailed admirably and our sailors took a great deal of experience from the regatta. Our radial fleet are well versed at this point and had high aspirations for this event. Chris Volkers secured a commanding victory overall with four bullets in seven races. Nate Bell and Nigel Fletcher also achieved their best results with a fourth and a sixth respectively.
Phil Gaze was the top master in the radial fleet clutching a seventh overall. Erik Leikermoser our youngest representative rounded out his fourth regatta in the Optimist green fleet. On the whole the regatta was a resounding success for the whole team and our performance will serve to motivate us as we prepare for the Waves Regatta at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in the beginning of July.
